With the recent opening of the new Mt. Rainier High School, one of the few remnants from the old school is the original vintage cinder track. Join the effort to replace the original cinder track at Mt. Rainier High School with a modern-day all-weather rubberized surface. When completed, the new track will be utilized by students from Midway, Pacific, Mt. Rainier, and the community at large.
April 2008 Update:
We are very fortunate that retiring 33rd District Rep. Shay Schual-Berke
managed to get the $12,000 we needed for the Mt. Rainier track as one of
her final budget requests. This took a bit of pressure off, as we were
unable to get any funds from the City of SeaTac. We thought that the
$12,000 would put us over the mark (finally!), but the project costs
were revised to reflect an increase in fuel and materials (watched those
gas prices lately?), so we are still $5,000 shy of the amount we need to
give a go-ahead to the contract.
We are making a final push to raise
that money from community contributors by June 1st, so we can get the
fundraising portion finished and the groundbreaking started! Watch for
an article in the Highline Times and our updated website.
